RICHMOND — The Oneida Baptist Mountaineers suffered their first setback of the season, dropping a 4-3 decision in penalty kicks to Madison Central at the Tribe Shootout.
The loss moves Oneida Baptist to 5-1 on the year as Nahom Yuna (two assists as well), Hero Khajohnsupawatchara, and Amadeus Martin each scored a goal apiece.
The Mountaineers fell behind early, conceding three unanswered goals to trail 3-0.
But they stormed back with a strong second-half push, leveling the match at 3-3 to force the shootout. Despite the late rally, Madison Central edged them out in penalty kicks to seal the win.
Coach Hunter House praised his team’s resilience after the tough start.
“We got off to a slow start and had a harsh penalty go against us,” he said. “Went down 3-0 and bounced back. We showed we were the better team but have to be able to start games stronger. We will make some adjustments and be ready for north on Thursday. So proud of the boys for their response — difficult to come back from 3-0 down, especially against a good team.”
The Mountaineers will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for a Thursday matchup against 49th District rival North Laurel.
