South Laurel hits 60-point plateau for the first time since 2018 with 63-14 rout of Tigers

LONDON — South Laurel reached the 60-point plateau for the first time in 17 years after defeating Clay County, 63-14, on Friday.

The last time a Cardinal team accomplished the feat was back in Nov. 7, 2008 when former South Laurel coach Jason Chappell’s squad defeated East Jessamine, 63-21.

South Laurel was hitting on all cylinders on both sides of the field throughout the game against the Tigers, who are now 0-2.

The Cardinals led 28-14 at halftime, thanks to three touchdowns from Wes Dowell, and a score from Carter Kelley.

South Laurel (2-0) outscored Clay County, 35-0, in the second half while defeating the Tigers for the fifth time in a row. Friday’s matchup was the first time the two teams had play against each other since 2016.
