Lady Redhounds homer twice during 9-5 win over Leslie County

CORBIN — A seven-run third inning proved to be more than enough for the Corbin Lady Redhounds as they fought back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat Leslie County on Tuesday, 9-5.

Kaili Sanders and Raegan Walker homered in the win while Apple Terrell started the game and went 3.1 innings while  allowing 10 hits and five earned runs. She also struck out four batters.

Danni Foley tossed the final 3.2 innings, allowing one hit and no runs. She struck out nine batters.

The win improved Corbin to 2-1.

“Big night for my girls getting back in a hitting groove and more ladies finding their rhythm at the plate,” Corbin coach Crystal Stidham said. “We’ve had a slow start getting everyone connecting at the same time but we are getting there.

Super proud of Freshman Apple Terrell with her first varsity start,” she added. “She always has a laid back and relaxed demeanor and didn’t get rattled when Leslie County got some hits off of her. She kept working and that’s what we wanted to see, she kept grinding and kept great composure. I want my newer pitchers to get chances to work and that Varsity experience.  I was proud of her work today. Building that confidence on the mound is so important, and knowing you have a team that will rally behind you with hits is a key component going to work and to team having your back.

“We finally got the bats rolling with Kaili Sanders going deep to the creek, homering and getting us on the board,” Stidham continued. “Hits are contagious as we had more poise at the plate and this became our go to as we had multiple girls getting a free pass as well. Then enter Raegan Walker, she homered to deep left center to get us to 9-5 over Leslie County. Just proud always of my team and a win is a win. Let’s Go Lady Redhounds.”
