LONDON — Brady Robinson hauled in three long touchdown receptions while quarterback Maddox Warren turned in another impressive performance as South Laurel rolled past Wayne County, 40-7, on homecoming night.
The victory continued an impressive start for the Cardinals, who improved to 4-1 on the season.
“It was a big win for the Cardinals on homecoming night,” South Laurel coach John Hines said. “We’re proud of our young team and the way they are progressing. Really had a big night offensively throwing the football.”
Warren led the passing attack, while Robinson emerged as his biggest weapon with three touchdown receptions.
“Maddox Warren had an outstanding evening again, and young sophomore wide receiver Brady Robinson was the star of the show tonight with three bomb touchdowns,” Hines said. “Noah Ison ran the ball extremely well. There were some key catches by Kenyon Ellis and Caleb Roark that kept drives alive.”
Hines also credited an offensive front consisting of left tackle Javier Zuniga, left guard Jacob Lawson, center Brady Valentine, right guard Gunnar Queen, right tackle Gabe Pruitt and tight end Ash Napier.
“Our offensive line had one of the best nights they’ve had yet,” Hines said.
South Laurel was equally impressive defensively, holding Wayne County to seven points.
“Defensively I thought we were very solid,” Hines said. “Good job on the defensive line and the linebackers handling their run game. Caleb Roark, Kenyon Ellis, Braylenn Centers and Wilkelver Godavaria were outstanding on the backend in pass coverage.”
For Hines, improving to 4-1 while celebrating homecoming made the victory even more special.
“I’m happy for our coaches, our fans, our team, our school, our community and everybody involved,” Hines said. “It’s a great way to spend homecoming night.”
