Corbin Ends Jaguars’ Season, McWhorter’s Legendary Run Comes To A Close

LONDON — Corbin finally solved North Laurel on Monday.

After dropping both regular season meetings to the Jaguars, the Redhounds flipped the script in convincing fashion, rolling to a 9-2 victory in first round action of the 13th Region Baseball Tournament at North Laurel.

Corbin improved to 20-16 on the season and advanced to the regional semifinals while North Laurel finished its season at 18-15.

Monday’s loss also marked the end of an era for North Laurel baseball as longtime coach Darren McWhorter coached his final game after 26 seasons leading the Jaguars program.

Corbin broke open a tight game with a four-run third inning and never looked back.

The Redhounds added insurance runs late, including three more in the seventh inning to put the game away.

“Really proud of these guys,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Brady Webb was phenomenal, super-excited for him to see how this season has played out for him and the role that he’s taken on for us. Offensively, we had big hits in big spots up and down the lineup.”

Trey Person led Corbin offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of doubles. Malachi Zachery added two RBI while Cam Estep drove in another run and scored twice. Clay Botner, Jaden Broughton and Dallas Merida each added hits in the win.

Brady Webb earned the complete-game victory on the mound, allowing just three hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out four.

North Laurel grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before Corbin answered with four runs in the third to seize control.

Ashton Napier drove in a run for the Jaguars while Colton Stewart also added an RBI hit. Cam Hinkle finished with a hit and scored a run.

Eli Holt took the loss after allowing five runs over five innings of work.
