LONDON — Clay County wasted little time taking control Monday, rolling to an 11-1 victory over Middlesboro in first round action of the 13th Region Fastpitch Tournament at South Laurel.
The Lady Tigers improved to 15-15 on the season while Middlesboro finished the year with a 14-12 record.
Clay County pounded out 18 hits and scored in every inning but the seventh, building a commanding lead early and never looking back.
Anna Samples and Ella Samples each drove in three runs to lead the offensive explosion. Maddie Craft finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two triples while Madison Sizemore added three hits. Holly Hacker also collected two hits and an RBI.
Alivia Hoskins delivered one of the biggest swings of the night with a home run while also driving in two runs and stealing a base.
Annabelle Lovett earned the win in the circle after allowing just one run on six hits over six innings.
Middlesboro scored its lone run in the first inning on an RBI single from Addison Lawson, but the Lady Yellow Jackets were unable to slow down Clay County’s offense afterward.
Taylor Partin led Middlesboro with two hits while Aubrie Womack, Jenna Baker, Kenna Lawson and Addison Lawson each added hits in the loss.
Clay County led 6-1 after three innings before adding two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to put the game out of reach.
