Redhounds struggle at the plate, lose to Russell County, 5-2

JAMESTOWN — A fast start put Corbin in an early hole it couldn’t climb out of Monday  as Russell County handed the Redhounds a 5-2 setback.

Corbin (14-13) struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Russell County answered with two runs in the bottom half and added another in the second inning to take control early.

The Redhounds trimmed their deficit to 3-2 with a run in the third inning, but that would be as close as they’d get. Russell County tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Corbin managed just four hits in the game.

Cam Estep led the way with a hit, RBI, and two stolen bases while Malachi Zachery added an RBI. Trey Person and Paul Viars each chipped in a hit as well.

Zachery took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs (three earned) on 11 hits over five innings.
