Williams dominates in pitcher’s circle as South Laurel blanks Jackson County

LONDON — South Laurel’s Kenzie Williams was untouchable Monday, and her teammates backed her with stellar hitting at the plate in a 6-0 shutout of Jackson County.

Williams turned in a dominant performance in the pitcher’s circle, striking out 14 and allowing just two hits over six shutout innings to lead the Lady Cardinals.

Offensively, South Laurel (24-5) broke through in the fourth inning before pulling away with a four-run fifth inning.

“We had a great effort in the circle from Kenzie tonight,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “We got into some trouble in the first and were able to work out of it. Offensively, we had runners on early in the game but weren’t able to get a timely hit. We got a big swing from Emmie in the fourth to give us a lead. In the fifth, we played some small ball and Kenzie provided a big swing that opened up the lead. Great team win tonight against a tough region opponent.”

Williams helped her own cause with a three-run home run, while Emmie Rice also went deep and finished with two hits and two RBI. Bailey Frazier added two hits and scored a run, and Lexi Messer drove in a run.
