WILLIAMSBURG — Luke Hillard was near-perfect on the mound during Tuesday’s 50th District battle with rival Corbin.
Hillard dominated from beginning to end, limiting the Redhounds to only one hit, and three base runners while striking out five batters to lead the Colonels to a 4-0 victory.
Whitley County is now 24-2 and finished the 50th District slate with a perfect 6-0 record. The state’s No. 2 ranked team (No. 1 in RPI Ratings) has now won 11 games in a row, and 17 out of its last 18 games. Corbin falls to 12-11 and 2-4 against district opponents.
“Proud of our guys tonight,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “Luke competed his tail off and we played error-free defense. Great recipe for winning baseball. Go Colonels.”
The Colonels pushed across a run in the first inning and added two more in the third inning before scoring another insurance run in the fourth inning.
Hillard helped his own cause with two RBI while Henry Bowling went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Ethan Allen had a hit, an RBI, and a run scored while Kip Allen added a run-scoring hit. Caden Mountjoy also had a hit in the win.
Trey Person delivered Corbin’s lone hit.
