WILLIAMSBURG — South Laurel wasted no time taking control Monday night, scoring 10 runs over the first two innings and never looking back in a dominant 17-1 victory over Williamsburg.
The Cardinals (15-8 overall, 3-2 vs. district opponents) set the tone immediately with four runs in the first inning, and then blew the game open with a six-run second inning. By the time Williamsburg pushed across its lone run in the fourth inning, the damage had been done.
At the center of it all was Waylon Hensley, who delivered a standout all-around performance.
Hensley went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI, and a home run while dominating on the mound, tossing a four-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no earned runs.
“Another good win for us tonight,” South Laurel coach Trey Smith said. “I like the way we swinging the bat right now. There are a lot of good things to build on. Have to show up tomorrow and do it again. “
South Laurel’s offense piled up 15 hits as Reece Noble scored four runs and added two hits while Carter Kelley drove in three runs and finished with two hits, including a home run. Bryson Turner added a big effort as well, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
