LONDON — South Laurel picked up a huge 50th District win on Monday, rallying from two-run deficits in two different occasions to knock off Corbin in eight innings, 5-4.
The Cardinals trailed 3-1 after three innings of play and 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh.
Carter Kelley’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in two runs to tie the game at four apiece while Jacob Culler’s run scoring single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth scored Mason Boggs to give South Laurel the win.
The Cardinals are now 12-8 overall and 1-2 in district play while Corbin falls to 12-6, and 2-1.
“I’m very proud of my team tonight,” South Laurel coach Trey Smith said. “They kept fighting until the end. It was a great game to be apart of. This district is never easy and this year is no different. Big contributions by so many different people tonight. Great day to be a Cardinal.”
Kelley finished with two hits and three RBI while Reece Noble had a hit, an RBI, and scored twice. Culler also finished with a hit and an RBI.
Waylon Hensley tossed 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and three earned runs while striking out four batters. Jackson Catchings got the win, working 5.1 innings while allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters.
Trey Person had a home run and an RBI for Corbin while Jaden Broughton delivered two hits and two RBI.
