RICHMOND — Whitley County continued its strong play with a straight-set road victory over Madison Southern, winning 25-14, 25-13 and 25-21.
The Lady Colonels made an important adjustment to their blocking scheme midway through the opening set and used it to help take control of the match.
Whitley County carried that momentum into a convincing second-set victory before Madison Southern made things more difficult in the third. With the final set tightening late, the Lady Colonels remained composed and closed out the 25-21 win to complete the sweep.
“We knew coming in that we would see a good Madison Southern team,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “They are well coached and pursue the ball well defensively. We had to adjust our blocking scheme about midway through the first set, and that helped us. I was proud of our girls for making that in-game adjustment.
“Overall, I thought we played a solid match,” he added. “The third set got a little tight at the end, but I liked our girls’ demeanor, and they responded well to finish out the set and match. We are playing with a lot of confidence right now. It’s a blessing to get to coach these girls. We get a chance to play for another championship on Saturday in the 2A Sectionals at McCreary Central. We’re looking forward to the opportunity.”
