13th Region Coaching Carousel Finally Slows, But the Real Questions Are Just Beginning

I’ll be the first to admit, it’s been one heck of a past four weeks.

I can’t remember the last time four high school boys’ varsity head coaching jobs came open at the same time in the 13th Region.

And yeah, it made for one heck of a rumor mill.

From “Hey, have you heard so-and-so is getting the job?” to 150-plus texts a day (probably more), along with 15+ calls daily, it was nonstop.

Headaches included.

Those days are mostly behind us now. But if you’ve somehow been hiding under a rock since mid-March, here’s how it all unfolded.

Isaac Wilson surprises folks, and steps down as the Corbin Lady Redhounds head coach, and then a few hours later, Jeff Davis stepped down after 15 years at the helm of the South Laurel boys’ basketball program. That’s when things really started moving.

Former Bell County coach Brad Sizemore left to take the South Laurel job, returning to his alma mater.

Just a few hours later, Corbin made its move, hiring Kevin Burton to replace Tony Pietrowski , who transitioned to the Corbin girls’ job following Isaac Wilson’s decision to step down a few weeks ago.

Then came the final twist.

Bell County turned right around and hired Davis.

So, in case you lost track, Bell County and South Laurel basically pulled off a coaching switcharoo.

Yeah… I didn’t have that on my 13th Region Coaches Destination Bingo Card.

Man, I’m tired just from writing all of this. Ha!

But now the next phase begins, or does it?

The big question now is simple:

What players, if any, decide to transfer?

And could we see movement from outside the region into these programs?

The coaching carousel took a while to settle. The player movement, if there is any, could take even longer.

With all that said, here’s the bright side, we’re just 183 days away from the start of the 2026-27 season.

Oh, and one more thing, Jackson County’s job still hasn’t been filled.

So yeah, if you’re a high school basketball fan, these are some pretty interesting times.
