LONDON — Whitley County entered Monday’s 50th District battle with South Laurel trying to avoid losing two games in a row for the first time this season.
They managed to do just that thanks Cooper Parman’s red-hot bat, and the arm of EJ Allen.
Parman went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and two RBI while Allen dominated on the mound, to lead the Colonels to a 6-1 win.
Allen scattered four hits while allowing one run and finishing with six strikeouts.
“Good first district win for us,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “Our guys came to the ballpark ready to play. EJ was really good tonight and so was our defense. We had some really good at bats early in the game. We didn’t have a lot of runs to show for it but we were able to get pitch count up and keep adding runs.
“Baseball is a game that you have to get ready for the next one,” he added. “We have another big game tomorrow. Our guys will regroup and get ready for a game at our place. Go Colonels.”
The win improved Whitley County to 13-2 while the Cardinals fell to 10-6.
Bryson Turner led South Laurel with two hits while Reece Noble and Jamison West each had a hit apiece. Carter Kelley drove in the Cardinals’ lone run.
