WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County wasted no time taking control Thursday, pushing across six runs in the first inning on its way to a 14-0 win over Williamsburg.
The Lady Colonels (6-6) set the tone by sending 11 batters to the plate in the opening inning, never looking back.
Whitley County added three runs in the third and five more in the fourth to put the game out of reach early.
“Our girls came out ready to play tonight and had a lot of focus,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “They are getting more confident each game and that’s great to see. It’s great to get a big win like this in our first district game. We hit the ball really well, made great plays on defense and got another strong pitching performance. Our energy and communication was where it needs to be as well. We just have to keep working and having fun!”
Jazlynn Brown led the offensive explosion with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, driving in three runs and scoring three times. Jalyn McKay added two hits and three RBI while Madilyn Rains finished with two hits and two RBI.
Hallie Huddleston and Payton Hurst each collected two hits, and Katelyn Shepherd added a home run and three RBI as part of Whitley County’s 15-hit attack.
Megan McKiddy continued her dominance in the pitcher’s circle, tossing another complete-game shutout. She allowed just five hits over five innings while striking out four.
Williamsburg (6-6) managed five hits in the contest with Marissa Tolbert leading the way with two hits. Makynli Brown, and Makynzi Brown both had a hit apiece along with Makenzie Rice.
