From Hounds to Lady Hounds: Pietrowski Makes Sideline Switch

CORBIN — After 25 years as head coach of the Corbin Redhounds boys’ basketball program, Tony Pietrowski has stepped down from the position — but not from the sidelines.

Pietrowski will transition to become the girls’ varsity basketball coach at Corbin.

During his tenure, Pietrowski surpassed Harry Taylor as the program’s all-time winningest coach, recording his 442nd victory in January of 2022.

He guided the Redhounds to four 13th Region championships (2005, 2009, 2010, and 2018), along with 11 50th District titles and 10 appearances in the 13th Region championship game.

Pietrowski also led Corbin to a pair of Elite Eight appearances in the KHSAA Sweet 16, accomplishing the feat in both 2005 and 2018.

“It has been an honor to sit at the helm of Corbin Boys basketball for 25 years,” Pietrowski said. “My love for the program, community and school started at a young age. I remember sitting in the stands anxiously awaiting the moment I could wear the Corbin jersey. The countless memories, friendships and achievements I enjoyed as a player, then the transition to Head Coach after college. To this day, the phone call letting me know I would in fact take over that position is a cherished memory.

“I write this to place closure on this era of my coaching career, but this isn’t the final chapter,” he added. “I’m excited to announce l have accepted the position as Head Coach of The Corbin High School Girls’ basketball program. Thank you to Travis Wilder, Tackett Wilson, and our school board for the opportunity. I’m beyond excited for what’s in store for our program and our girls! Here is to another 25 years, a new round of life long memories, and a push towards greatness. Go Hounds.”
