Clay County turned a tight game into a runaway in the second half, pulling away for a 63-38 win over Jackson County on Tuesday — the victory marked the first time Clay County has swept Jackson County in the regular season since the 2017-2018 season.
“Slow start coming out but the girls responded in a big way in the second quarter,” Clay County coach Gemma Parks said. “It’s always good to get a district game, especially when our bench steps up. Still got a couple dealing with injuries but they battled through. Gotta be ready for a tough road game tomorrow at Leslie.”
The Lady Tigers and Lady Generals were locked in early, with Jackson County holding a slim 16-14 edge after the first quarter.
Clay County answered in the second period, outscoring Jackson 17-8 to take a 31-24 lead into halftime, then put the game away with a dominant second half.
Clay County’s defense set the tone after the break, limiting Jackson County to just 14 points over the final two quarters.
The Lady Tigers used a 22-point fourth quarter to stretch the margin and seal the victory.
Harper Rice led the way for Clay County with 15 points, Anna Samples added 13 points, and Lauryn Sizemore scored 12.
