LONDON — The North Laurel Jaguars turned a slow start into a 29-point victory on Friday, rolling past crosstown rival South Laurel, 65–36, while holding the Cardinals to their fewest point total in series history.
North Laurel trailed 12–5 after the first quarter, but flipped the game completely from there, outscoring South Laurel 60–24 the rest of the way.
The win pushes the Jaguars’ win streak to 12 games and improves them to 20–4 overall and 11–0 against regional opponents. With a win over Wayne County in Saturday’s Fox 56 Showcase, North Laurel would finish the week with five victories.
“I’m happy for our guys tonight,” he said. “Things didn’t go our way early, but we just kept fighting and the ball started to go in the basket. Our defense fueled us after a slow start. This is a tough travel week for us and we wanted to get five wins. We need to bounce back tomorrow and have another good one on Fox 56 at 6:30 p.m.”
After the sluggish first quarter, North Laurel’s offense caught fire in the second.
The Jaguars stormed back to take a 32–24 halftime lead behind a huge quarter from Kaiden Allen, who scored 11 points and hit two 3-pointers. Reece Davidson added seven points in the period while Jordan Rawlings chipped in five.
North Laurel kept building its lead in the second half, stretching the edge to 48–32 entering the fourth quarter before putting the game away with a 17–4 run in the final eight minutes.
Davidson led the Jaguars with 16 points, Corey Cunagin added 15, Allen finished with 13, and Cooper Elza scored 10 points.
South Laurel, now 12–10, was led by Isaiah Robinson’s 11 points. Garrison Brown knocked down three 3-pointers and scored nine, while Kaden Taylor added seven.
“Can’t have turnovers and missed assignments against really good teams,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “We played well in stretches but we didn’t play with the same physicality and mental toughness we needed too throughout the game.”
