WILLIAMSBURG — South Laurel’s got a much-needed district win on Tuesday, overpowering Williamsburg with a 73-17 victory.
The Cardinals (12-9 overall, 3-2 vs. 50th District opponents) continued their impressive defensive play, allowing only 54 points during their past two games.
South Laurel coach Jeff Davis was happy with the win, and credited Williamsburg for the improvement it has shown.
“Williamsburg has gotten better,” he said. “Coach Bargo has done a good job with his players.”
Fifteen different players scored for South Laurel as Blaine Baker led the way with 10 points while Logan Webb and Brendan Murphy added eight points apiece. Maddox Warren tossed in seven points while Landon Howard, and Brayden Laymon scored six points apiece.
South Laurel built a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 43-15 edge at halftime. The Cardinals put the game away by outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 14-0, in the third quarter.
Williamsburg (1-22, 0-5) was led in scoring by Layne Jeffries, who scored 12 points.
