SOMERSET — South Laurel’s historical season came to an end on Friday, losing to Pulaski County, 42-13, during second round action of the Class 5A playoffs.
The Maroons’ Bryan Ford took the opening kickoff-off 81 yards for a touchdown, and Pulaski County never looked back.
By the time the first quarter ended, the Cardinals (9-3) were staring at a 21-0 deficit.
“Bad night,” South Laurel coach John Hines said. “Things went all wrong from the start. It was a sad way to end the season. But we are proud of what this team has accomplished. 9 wins. The first playoff win in 20 years. They have certainly raised the standards for South Laurel Football. We will continue to climb the ladder. The future is bright.”
Things got even worse in the second quarter with Pulaski County adding three more touchdowns to push its lead to, 42-0.
The Maroons continued their dominance against South Laurel, capturing their 23rd win during the last 24 meetings between the two teams while running their win streak against the Cardinals to 15 games.
South Laurel’s last win over the Maroons came in 2011, a 28-24 victory.
Despite seeing their season come to an end, the Cardinals managed to capture the program’s first playoff win since 2005 while capturing its first road playoff win since 1996.
