The Pineville Mountain Lions are off to their best start during the past 25 years after cruising past winless Jackson County on Friday.
The Mountain Lions (6-0) scored 37 points in the first quarter, and never looked back against the Generals (0-7), winning, 51-0.
Sophomore quarterback Sawyer Thompson turned in another solid effort from behind center, throwing for more than 250 yards along with four passing touchdowns while running for a score as well.
Pineville will attempt to run its win streak to 7-0 next Friday when the Mountain Lions pay a visit to district foe Lynn Camp.
Pineville dominated as soon as the ball was kicked off. Sawyer Thompson’s 65-yard touchdown pass to Luke Akers gave the Mountain Lions an 8-0 lead while his 21-yard touchdown pass to Evan Biliter increased his team’s advantage to 16-0 with 9:27 remaining in the first quarter.
The Mountain Lions’ second forced turnover of the contest led to Thompson’s 21-yard touchdown run as Pineville’s lead grew to 24-0 at the 7:03 mark of the opening quarter.
Sawyer’s third touchdown pass, a 56-yarder to Tim Hall, increased his team’s lead to 31-0 while his 36-yard touchdown strike to Akers made the score, 37-0, entering the second quarter.
Landon King added a 65-yard touchdown run to give Pineville a 44-0 lead at halftime while Akers’ 52-yard score combined with Nasir Wilson’s eight-yard touchdown run pushed the Mountain Lions’ advantage to 51-0 in the fourth quarter.
