Corbin Outlasts Whitley County in Five-Set Thriller

CORBIN — For the third time this season, the Corbin Lady Redhounds got the better of defending 13th Region champion Whitley County, pulling out a dramatic 3-2 victory on their home court.

Corbin improves to 19-8 with the win, while Whitley County falls to 23-4.

“Tonight’s district win showed us so much about this team,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “We didn’t start off playing our best, but the girls refused to roll over. They fought back, adjusted, and showed incredible grit to win in five sets. Our JV girls did the same, battling through and taking it in the third. I couldn’t be prouder of both groups. It’s a great day to be a Redhound.”

The Lady Colonels started strong, taking the opening set 25-21, but Corbin answered with a hard-fought 25-20 win in the second to even the match at 1-1. Whitley County regained momentum in the third, rolling to a 25-13 victory to go up 2-1.

Corbin refused to go away, though, battling back to claim the fourth set 25-23 and forcing a decisive fifth. In the tiebreaker, the two regional powers went back and forth, but the Lady Redhounds held on for an 18-16 win to secure the match.
