LONDON — The South Laurel Lady Cardinals defended their home court and picked up bragging rights in Thursday’s crosstown showdown, defeating rival North Laurel, 3-1.
The win improved South Laurel to 11-17, while North Laurel dropped to 6-12 on the season. It also marked the second time this year the Lady Cardinals have topped the Lady Jaguars.
“This was a big match for us with tonight not only being a crosstown rival game, but also senior night, and it was really special seeing the team rallying together for our four awesome seniors,” South Laurel coach Shelley Nunley said. “After a tense first set, we settled in and came out strong going into the second, and played some really aggressive, purposeful volleyball for the rest of the game. Everyone did their part, and our underclassmen showed up in big ways to support their seniors and make the night even more memorable.
“To shoutout each of our seniors individually: Nora had complete control of the game setting tonight, and she’s inching her way closer and closer to her 1,000th career assist,” she added. “Aubrie dominated at the net with some huge swings and quick, demanding blocks. Then both Karlee and Kady were rock solid in the back row, contributing a ton to our defense and serve receive. I’m just so proud of how hard our girls played. This was a big win, and we couldn’t be more excited over it.”
