WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County turned in one of its strongest performances of the season Thursday, defeating Madison Southern in straight sets, 25-14, 25-19, 25-19.
The Lady Colonels, now 16-3, handed the Lady Eagles just their fourth loss of the year. Madison Southern entered the matchup with an impressive 20-3 record.
“Great win for our team over a very good opponent in Madison Southern,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “They had a 20-3 record coming in and we challenged our girls to focus and get off to a good start. I’m really proud of all our players this evening — they did their job well. I think this was one of our better defensive matches we’ve had — passing and serve receive was solid and our net play was much better.
“Our continuity is starting to get better and that’s a good thing to see — girls are working well together and having fun out there,” Halcomb added. “We still have work to do and our serving has to be more consistent, but it’s all starting to come together for us. We are looking forward to a great weekend of volleyball as we host the First Priority Volleyball Classic on Saturday.”
