Colonels notch 18th win, defeat Lynn Camp, 70-30

WILLIAMSBURG — Henry Bowling scored 15 points and notched his 1,000th career points as Whitley County picked up a 70-30 win over Lynn Camp on Tuesday.

Teammate Bryson Mahan led all scorers with 16 points as the Colonels improved to 18-8 while the Wildcats fell to 4-20.

“Good win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “Our guys continue to play unselfish and for each other. This group has a special bond and I love seeing that.

“Congrats to Henry Bowling on scoring his 1,000th career point,” he added. “He’s a great kid and a very hard worker. I got the opportunity to coach him in the seventh and eighth grade and it’s awesome to see the player that he has become. Seeing our team be extremely happy for him makes what we are doing worth it. We’ve got four big games left to finish out the season. We are looking to finish the season strong and head into district play.”

Swords’ squad took control early, building a 30-7 lead in the first minute behind Mahan’s 11-point effort while Levi Jackson knocked down to 3-pointers while scoring six points. Jackson hit two more 3-pointers in the second quarter while Mahan and Riley Fuson added five points apiece as Whitley County’s lead grew to 50-11 at halftime.

The Colonels put the finishing touches on the win in the second half, outscoring Lynn Camp, 20-19.
