Stuber Scores Twice as North Laurel Rolls Past Wayne County, 5-1

LONDON — Reilly Stuber scored twice and added an assist as North Laurel turned in another strong offensive performance, defeating Wayne County, 5-1.

The Jaguars (1-0-1) controlled possession and created scoring opportunities throughout the match despite playing without two starters because of injuries.

North Laurel struck early when Stuber assisted Tate Philpot for the opening goal. The Jaguars continued to apply pressure, with Braylon Bishop setting up Stuber for a goal that extended the lead to 2-0.

Sawyer Miller made it 3-0 before halftime, scoring off a corner kick from Zach Jacobs.

“I felt we really did a good job of possessing the ball tonight, and we were able to get good looks at goal,” North Laurel coach David Broyles said. “We were without two starters tonight due to injury, but had some younger players step up and play well. We were also able to rotate some players in and out for some rest that will be much needed this week with having three games.”

North Laurel added two more goals after halftime. Peyton McPhetridge scored off a pass from Philpot before Stuber collected his second goal of the night off a Bishop cross to make it 5-0.

“We opened the scoring early when Reilly Stuber assisted Tate Philpot, who tapped it in,” Broyles said. “We kept the pressure on, which led to more opportunities, and we capitalized when Braylon Bishop assisted Reilly Stuber to make it 2-0. We added a third goal before the half when Sawyer Miller scored off a corner kick by Zach Jacobs.

“We came out the second half a little flat, but grabbed a fourth goal when Peyton McPhetridge scored off a slotted ball by Tate Philpot,” he added. “We got our fifth goal when Reilly Stuber netted his second goal from a Braylon Bishop cross. We gave up a late goal to take away the clean sheet from Caden Watkins for the 5-1 final.”
