Lady Colonels improve to 3-0 with win over Bell County

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County’s unbeaten start continued Tuesday as the Lady Colonels overcame an early deficit to defeat Bell County, 2-1.

The Lady Colonels improved to 3-0 after turning things around in the second half behind two goals from Jerrica Shepherd.

Bell County struck first and carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Whitley County responded after the break.

“Tough first half, but the Lady Colonels refused to stay down,” Whitley County coach Becky Prewitt said. “The Cats got one past us early, but we flipped the switch after the break and came out determined.

“Jerrica Shepherd battled through and delivered two second-half goals to spark the attack. Keli Ayers put on a clinic and earned Player of the Game — absolute standout performance.”

Shepherd’s two goals proved to be the difference as the Lady Colonels completed the comeback and kept their perfect start to the season intact.

Prewitt also credited Kierra Mullins and Keira Cheek for their performances.

“Kierra Mullins controlled the midfield and kept pushing us forward, while Keira Cheek locked it down defensively,” Prewitt said. “Proud of this group for showing heart and fighting until the final whistle.”
