LONDON — South Laurel opened its volleyball season in impressive fashion Tuesday, sweeping crosstown rival North Laurel (1-1) in three sets.
The Lady Cardinals (1-0) came out on top in two tightly contested sets, winning 25-22 and 28-26, before taking control of the match with a dominating 25-10 victory in the third set.
South Laurel coach Billy Ball was pleased with the intensity and communication his team displayed throughout the rivalry matchup.
“Great team win,” Ball said. “Girls played with extreme intensity all three sets and communicated at a high level. Still a lot to clean up, but a great way to start the season.”
The Lady Cardinals also received plenty of support from the home crowd during the season-opening victory.
“Special shoutout to the student section and fans for bringing the energy all night,” Ball said. “Go Cards.”
