Panthers hand Lynn Camp, 62-41, loss

CORBIN — Evan Taylor’s 22-point scoring effort played a key role in Knox Central’s 62-41 51st District win over Lynn Camp on Tuesday.

Evan Hubbard added 16 points in the win while Hayden Melton scored 14 points as the Panthers improved to 10-8 overall and 1-0 in district play.

“Solid first half for us,” Knox Central coach Tony Patterson said. “We gave up too many deep open looks throughout the game with no sense of urgency to defend.

“Unforced turnovers along with offensive spacing really hurt us in transition,” he added. “All things we can fix this week. Hayden was great protecting the rim and rebounded well, Evan Taylor did a great job controlling the pace.”

Caleb Woods led Lynn Camp (5-13, 0-2) with 18 points while Landen Rose added seven points.

“Really proud of our kids,” Lynn Canp coach Marcus McKeehan said. “We played hard for the entire 32 minutes. We fought the whole night against a really good physical team. We were missing Elijah Mayo due to sickness but freshman Cason Mills stepped up and played well in that role tonight. Caleb Woods continues to shoot the ball well and got hot with six threes. Landen Rose battled earlier foul trouble but kept playing hard.

“Every player contributed and played hard all night,” he added. “I can’t say enough about our kids effort tonight. Eisen Mayo, Conner Mabe, Kayden Powers, and DJ Wren all played their hearts out too. We will get back to work and build off tonight’s effort.”
