LONDON — North Laurel continued its postseason dominance Wednesday night, defeating Corbin, 3–1, to claim its second consecutive 13th Region Girls’ Soccer Tournament championship.
The Lady Jaguars (12–5) extended their winning streak to five games and completed a season sweep over the Lady Redhounds, marking the third victory against their rival this year. Corbin closed the season with a 9–12 record.
“So proud of this team,” North Laurel coach Kayla Carson said. “They fought the whole night and were able to defend their championship. They never quit.
“We knew Corbin would come out strong,” she added. “Congratulations to them on a great season. We will take a minute to celebrate then start preparing for next week. We look forward to representing the 13th region at state.”
North Laurel took control early and never looked back. Haley Combs opened the scoring in the first half to give the Lady Jaguars a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, North Laurel’s momentum surged as Presley Thompson delivered back-to-back goals — the first at the 34:12 mark and another with 18:25 remaining — pushing the advantage to 3–0.
Corbin’s Hadley Elmore broke through with a goal at the 6:05 mark, trimming the deficit to 3–1, but the Lady Redhounds couldn’t close the gap as North Laurel’s defense held strong down the stretch.
