WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County continued its impressive late-season surge with a commanding straight-set victory over Wayne County, winning 25-12, 25-9, 25-17 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Colonels (29-5) controlled the match from start to finish, using consistent serving, crisp passing, and a balanced offensive attack to earn their 29th win of the season.
Whitley County coach David Halcomb was pleased with his team’s focus and execution against a respected opponent.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Baker and the program she has built over at Wayne County,” he said. “They have always given us trouble and it has been a few years since we have beaten them. I thought we had a very strong outing tonight in just about every area of the game. This was probably our best serving match of the season — we only had about three service errors. Our passing was good as well, which allowed our offense to work efficiently.
“Super-proud of our girls’ mentality,” he added. “We are playing really well right now and this is the time of the season to be doing that. We look forward to our match on Thursday as we honor our three seniors. Go Colonels.”
