Corbin Suffers First Three-Game Skid Since 2015 in Heartbreaker Against Johnson Central

CORBIN — Corbin came within a minute of knocking off Class 4A’s top-ranked Johnson Central, but a late Golden Eagle touchdown sealed a 37-34 defeat Friday at Campbell Field.

The Redhounds, now 3-3, dropped their third straight game, marking the program’s first three-game losing skid since 2015.

Johnson Central controlled the first half, building a 22-7 lead behind a punishing ground attack. Corbin stormed back in the second half behind the play of quarterback Mason Salmons, who accounted for four touchdowns, including a 55-yard scoring strike to Cole Stevens that gave the Redhounds a 34-29 advantage with 8:12 remaining.

But Johnson Central answered with a decisive drive in the closing moments, finishing it with a 13-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion with just 1:08 left on the clock. Corbin’s final attempt to rally fell short, handing the Golden Eagles the narrow win.
