Grit and Growth: Pineville’s Resilience Pays Off With Rematch Victory

MANCHESTER — The old saying “patience is a virtue” rang true for the Pineville volleyball program Tuesday night.

After opening the season with a three-set loss to Clay County, the Mountain Lions showed just how far they’ve come by going on the road and defeating the Lady Tigers in four sets, 18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17. The victory marked Pineville’s fourth win of the season.

“Our girls have already proven this season that they are warriors and will never go down without a fight,” Pineville coach Samantha North said. “The first game of the season, when we played Clay, we really struggled on serve-receive, and we had 16 missed serves. Coming into the game, our focus was to limit those self-inflicted errors and really take pride in our defense and serve-receive.

“Our girls really rose to the challenge,” she added. “I don’t know that I have ever seen a team fight so hard for every point. We went long rallies and I had to call timeouts, not really even for a coaching moment, but to give them a minute to breathe. We are a little group of 5-foot somethings and are battling and hanging tough against great teams, and to pull out a win against a great Clay team after getting swept the first time, I think, will be a defining moment in our season.”
