Lady Redhounds knock off second straight top five ranked team in the 13th Region, rally from three runs down

MCKEE — Don’t look now but the Corbin Lady Redhounds are hitting stride at the right time.

Fighting back from a 3-0 deficit against Jackson County on Thursday, Crystal Stidham’s squad scored two runs in the sixth inning before back-to-back home runs from Apple Terrell and Danni Foley in the top of the seventh led to Corbin’s 5-3 win.

The Lady Redhounds (12-13) have reeled off two consecutive wins, defeating both No. 3 ranked Jackson County, and No. 4 ranked Pineville this week.

“Proud is an understatement,” Stidham said. “These ladies have fought through so much and are putting the pieces together at the right time. Jackson capitalized on a couple errors and got two runs on us and they were able to get another one in the fifth to put them up 3-0, but my ladies are resilient. We had been making contact, just hitting it right to them, I kept telling them I was good with that because we were hitting and we would get them through.

“And that’s what we did in the “sixth,” she added. “Danni got on, then Mo, then Anela loading the bases and Chloe Bays comes up big getting a hit and RBI to get us on the board. Kaili Sanders comes up next putting ball in play scoring Morgan Hicks. So it was 3-2.

“In the top of the seventh, I pinch hit freshman Olivia Anderson who just dialed in with a single and got us a lead off hit,” Stidham continued. “ I told her I needed her to lock in and get a hit for our team and she would be the one to tie this game for us.  Then enter Apple Terrell.  Apple locked in for a two-run homer to put us up 4-3 and the momentum was on our side. Followed by Danni Foley who launched number seven on the season to put us up 5-3. Then my defense took care of business in bottom of the seventh. Apple pitched a great game, our defense had her back making plays and helping us to get this win!  Never ever give up on my girls, they will be in it to the last out. Just a great win for my team and just so proud of them for their grit and determination to get the win!  Let’s Go Lady Redhounds.”

The loss drops the Lady Generals to 15-14.

Jackson County struck first with two runs in the first inning before adding another run in the third inning.

Blakelynn Fee and Lexi Brockman both delivered home runs for the Lady General with Fee finishing with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Brockman drove in two runs and scored once. Baylee Berry, Aubrey McCowan, Ella Sallee, and Scarlett Peele each had a hit apiece.
