Colonels pick up big district road win, defeat Corbin, 58-54

CORBIN — Eric Swords’ Whitley County Colonels continue to improve, and it was evident during Tuesday’s 50th District road matchup with Corbin.

The Colonels picked up their second win in four games against the Redhounds thanks to a 58-54 victory.

The game was close throughout but 19 points by Dee Parker, 14 points from Bryson Mahan and Henry Bowling’s 11 points helped Whitley County to pull off the four-point win.

“Great district road win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “I thought we played well on both ends of the court. Our team has improved a ton throughout the season and extremely proud of them. We have played extremely hard all season now our execution is starting to catch up to that. It’s only one game tho and we know we got to be ready for the District tournament. Go Colonels.”

The win improved the Colonels to 16-7 and 3-3 against 50th District play while Corbin is now 14-8 and 4-2.

“Better team won tonight,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “We got outplayed and out-coached.

“I’d have to look at stats but felt like Dee Parked handled us pretty well in numerous facets of the game,” he added. “No one is going to feel sorry for the Redhounds. We are going to have to improve in areas or we could face an early exit. I still believe in my kids, and I fully expect them to put the work in to fix correctable errors that are showing their head in our losses. Another tough test, in a tough environment Thursday.”

Connor Middleton led the way with 20 points for the Redhounds while Eli Pietrowski added 15 points.
