Whitley County Punches Ticket to Region Tournament, Advances to 50th District Championship

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County is one win away from adding another 50th District championship to its résumé.

The Lady Colonels improved to 32-4 on the season with a straight-set victory over Williamsburg (12-16) in the semifinals of the 50th District Volleyball Tournament, winning 25-20, 25-12, 25-16.

The victory secured Whitley County a spot in the upcoming 13th Region Tournament while advancing the Lady Colonels to the district championship match.

Despite taking the opening set, Whitley County coach David Halcomb acknowledged his team wasn’t at its sharpest early in the contest.

The Lady Colonels overcame a sluggish start and serving inconsistencies before finding their rhythm in the second set.

“Good to come out and get the first one behind us,” Halcomb said. “This win gets us to the region tourney. We came out a little flat and our serving was off some, but regrouped and played much better the second set. I’m proud of our girls and looking forward to the next one and getting to compete for a 50th District Championship.”

After holding off Williamsburg in a competitive opening set, Whitley County took control with a convincing 25-12 victory in the second frame before closing out the match with a 25-16 win in the third.
