South Laurel Dominates Harlan County, Punches Ticket to 13th Region Championship

ONEIDA — South Laurel is headed to the 13th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament championship after turning in an impressive offensive performance in an 8-0 semifinal victory over Harlan County.

The Cardinals improved to 14-4 on the season behind a balanced scoring attack that featured six goals from three players, while eight total goals came from five different players.

Miles Kitzmiller, Drew Allen and Rey Victoria each scored twice, while Jase Jones and Kelan Littlejohn added one goal apiece to round out South Laurel’s offensive production.

South Laurel coach Brooks Cawood praised his team’s unselfishness and ability to create quality scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

“I was real happy with our boys coming out and really playing together. We knocked the ball around pretty well and converted some real good looks on goal,” Cawood said. “We got goals from Miles Kitzmiller (2), Drew Allen (2), Rey Victoria (2) with Jase Jones and Kelan Littlejohn each having one goal. As I said with being unselfish, we also got assists from several different guys.”

The Cardinals’ offensive balance proved to be too much for Harlan County, which saw its season come to an end with an 8-4 record.

With the semifinal victory behind them, South Laurel will now turn its attention toward preparing for the regional championship, where the Cardinals will face the winner of the North Laurel-Middlesboro semifinal.

“We will have a training session tomorrow in order to prepare for the winner of the Middlesboro/NL matchup,” Cawood said.
