BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central took care of business Friday night and set the stage for a championship showdown, defeating Clay County 44-6 to remain unbeaten in district play.
The Panthers improved to 6-2 and will face Rockcastle County next week with the district title on the line. Clay County fell to 3-5.
“Good to get the win,” Knox Central coach Wayne Mills said. “Little sluggish to start the game but found our footing and made plays when we needed to.”
Once the Panthers settled in, Mills said several of his offensive playmakers helped Knox Central take control.
“Spencer Prichard had big night and Braydon Sizemore was his usual self,” Mills said. “Eli Carey commanded the offense well.”
Nathan Dunn also made an impact in his return from injury, giving Carey another option in the passing game.
“Nathan Dunn coming off injury had great night catching the ball,” Mills said.
The victory keeps Knox Central perfect against district opponents and turns the Panthers’ attention directly toward Rockcastle County with the district championship at stake.
“All in all, great to get the win and set up district title game next week,” Mills said.
