SOMERSET — North Laurel ran into one of Class 5A’s toughest teams Friday night as unbeaten Pulaski County built a 36-point advantage before defeating the Jaguars 36-8.
The Maroons improved to 8-0, while North Laurel fell to 3-4.
“We ran into a really good Pulaski County team tonight, they were big up front and physical,” North Laurel coach Steven Nelson said.
Pulaski County controlled the game for most of the night and built a 36-0 lead before the Jaguars continued fighting through the final minutes.
North Laurel finally broke through late, first recording a safety before Jude McWhorter raced 60 yards on the ensuing return to account for the Jaguars’ remaining six points.
“I love that we fought all game and didn’t give up,” Nelson said. “We gotta get back healthy and get some guys ready for next week.”
North Laurel will now turn its attention toward another important district matchup, with playoff positioning still at stake.
“Big game for the number two seed,” Nelson said. “Go Jags.”
