LONDON — Corbin found a way through a defensive battle Tuesday, edging South Laurel 1-0 in the semifinals of the 49th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament.
The match remained scoreless through the first half as South Laurel’s pressure made things difficult on the Lady Redhounds.
“Proud of my team for not letting down and pulling out the win,” Corbin coach Hannah Goins said. “South came in strong and pressured us well, we looked panicked and rushed at the beginning of the game, but once we were able to calm down and settle in, we looked a little better.”
Corbin continued creating chances after halftime before finally breaking through with 14:20 remaining in the second half. Jailee Goins found the back of the net to give the Lady Redhounds a 1-0 lead.
“We had a lot of opportunities and were finally able to put one away,” Goins said.
The Lady Redhounds made the one-goal advantage hold up the rest of the way to secure their spot in Thursday’s district championship.
“District time everyone is coming in strong and we have to be ready,” Goins said. “South played well.”
Goins praised her team’s effort after surviving the close semifinal matchup.
“I’m extremely proud of my team for their effort and heart tonight. They didn’t quit and they fought hard, and were excited to be advancing to the championship on Thursday.”
