CORBIN — Williamsburg wasted no time taking control Friday night, exploding for 48 points in the first quarter on its way to a 56-6 district victory over Lynn Camp.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district play, while Lynn Camp fell to 1-6 and 0-2. The victory also marked Williamsburg’s 23rd consecutive win over the Wildcats.
Noah Jones opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Reece Hatcher with 10:45 remaining in the first quarter. The two-point conversion gave Williamsburg an 8-0 lead.
Just nine seconds later, Lane Jeffries broke loose for a 38-yard touchdown run. Another successful two-point conversion quickly pushed the advantage to 16-0.
Hatcher then connected with Trenton Cornett for an 18-yard touchdown with 6:06 left in the first, and Williamsburg converted again to make it 24-0.
The Yellow Jackets’ defense joined the scoring moments later when Landin Miller returned an interception for a touchdown. The two-point conversion stretched the lead to 32-0 with 5:54 remaining.
Cornett caught his second touchdown pass of the quarter, a 13-yarder from Hatcher, to make it 40-0. Jones then capped the remarkable opening period with a punt return for a touchdown with 35 seconds remaining, giving Williamsburg a 48-0 lead after another successful conversion.
Williamsburg added its final touchdown late in the second quarter when Eli Meadors caught a 15-yard touchdown pass, sending the Yellow Jackets into halftime with a 54-0 advantage.
Lynn Camp avoided the shutout in the third quarter when Conner Mabe scored a touchdown with 2:40 remaining, accounting for the Wildcats’ lone score.
Williamsburg will host unbeaten Middlesboro (7-0) next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
