WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County celebrated Senior Night with a 2-0 victory over Wayne County, improving the Lady Colonels to 6-6 on the season.
Whitley County created several opportunities during the opening half but couldn’t find the finishing touch, sending the match into halftime scoreless.
“Outstanding performance from the defense to keep a clean sheet tonight,” Whitley County coach Ilias Lankford said. “Chance after chance in the first half but could not find the back of the net.”
The Lady Colonels broke through after halftime, with Jerrica Shepherd scoring both goals. Callie McQueen assisted Shepherd’s first goal, while Kelsey Vanover provided the assist on the second.
“Starting the second half, the girls made tremendous efforts and came out very strong to put away two goals, both scored by Jerrica Shepherd,” Lankford said. “First goal assisted by Callie McQueen and second goal assisted by Kelsey Vanover.”
Whitley County’s defense made the two-goal advantage stand, completing the shutout and sending the Lady Colonels’ seniors out with a victory.
“A great ending to a great Senior Night,” Lankford said.
