LONDON — North Laurel quarterback Jude McWhorter accounted for four touchdowns as the Jaguars pulled away from Whitley County for a 42-6 victory Friday night.
McWhorter made an impact almost immediately, scoring on a touchdown run with 10:55 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point gave North Laurel a 7-0 lead.
Whitley County answered late in the opening quarter when Braydan Rose scored with 20 seconds remaining. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving North Laurel with a 7-6 advantage.
From there, the Jaguars took control.
McWhorter broke loose for a 27-yard touchdown run with 10:58 remaining in the second quarter, extending North Laurel’s lead to 13-6.
Whitley County’s turnovers then helped the Jaguars create separation. A Colonel fumble set up Bryson Nantz’s six-yard touchdown run with 7:19 remaining, pushing the lead to 20-6.
Another Whitley County turnover led to points just before halftime. Following an interception, McWhorter connected with Nantz on a 15-yard touchdown pass to give North Laurel a 28-6 advantage at the break.
The Jaguars continued to add to their lead in the third quarter. McWhorter scored on a 22-yard keeper with 6:13 remaining, and the extra point made it 35-6.
McWhorter capped his big night through the air, connecting with Cam Anderson for a touchdown with 2:36 left in the third. The extra point provided the final margin at 42-6.
“Glad we were able to come out and get a win at home,” North Laurel coach Steve Nelson said. “We played good, but not great, and we still have things to clean up to keep getting better. I thought we moved the ball really well on offense and on defense we got better as the game went on.
“I thought Jude, Cam, Bryson, and Braxton had great games on offense and the offensive line really stepped up,” he added. “We got a big matchup next week and have to get ready to play a really good Collins team. Go Jags.”
