SOMERSET — Corbin battled until the final points Thursday night but came up just short in a five-set road loss to Pulaski County, 22-25, 25-10, 25-17, 16-25, 12-15.
After dropping the opening set 25-22, the Lady Redhounds responded in impressive fashion. Corbin dominated the second set 25-10 before taking the third 25-17 to move within one set of securing the road victory.
Pulaski County answered with a 25-16 win in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set. The two teams battled down the stretch before Pulaski County prevailed 15-12 to complete the five-set victory.
“Tough five-set loss on the road tonight, but I’m proud of the fight our girls showed,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “Annabelle Griffin had a big night with 18 kills, Tatum Strain finished with 36 digs, and Harper Newcomb had 50 assists.”
Despite the loss, Corbin had several standout individual performances. Griffin’s 18 kills led the attack, Newcomb directed the offense with 50 assists, and Strain anchored the defense with 36 digs.
With postseason play drawing closer, Jones said the Lady Redhounds can use the difficult road match as another opportunity to improve.
“We battled until the very end, and there are a lot of positives we can take from this one as we keep building toward postseason,” Jones said. “Go Hounds.”
