DANVILLE — North Laurel was just eight seconds away from earning a scoreless draw against Boyle County before a late corner kick resulted in the only goal of the match, handing the Lady Jaguars a heartbreaking 1-0 loss.
The setback dropped North Laurel to 4-4-1 on the season after the Lady Jaguars kept Boyle County off the scoreboard for 79 minutes and 52 seconds.
“Boyle County scored with eight seconds to go from a corner kick,” North Laurel coach Jason Welch said. “I’m so proud of how our girls played. We had a plan and executed it just like I had hoped.”
North Laurel’s defense and midfield frustrated Boyle County throughout the match, keeping the Lady Jaguars in position for a result until the final seconds.
“We held a top 15 team in the state to 0-0 for 79 minutes and 52 seconds,” Welch said. “I feel like we controlled most of the game and I feel like we earned a lot of respect tonight. Our defense played great along with our midfield.”
Despite the loss, Welch came away encouraged by his team’s performance.
“Tonight our girls left it all on the field and I can’t wait to see the rest of our season.”
