North Laurel’s boys golf team put together a strong showing in the Southeast Kentucky Golf Conference Tournament while also being recognized for an outstanding regular season.
The Jaguars finished as the SEKGC Conference Tournament runners-up, completing the two-day, 18-hole event just six strokes behind the tournament champion.
The opening nine holes were played Tuesday at Battlefield Golf Course before the tournament concluded Wednesday with nine holes at London Country Club.
North Laurel finished with a team score of 314, with all five Jaguar golfers placing inside the top 10 individually.
Wes Storm led North Laurel with rounds of 40 and 36 for a 76, good enough for third place overall. Max Dotson followed with a 78 after rounds of 40 and 38, finishing sixth.
Jackson Storm shot 40-40 for an 80 and placed eighth, while Wil Sutton also carded an 80 with rounds of 38 and 42 to finish ninth. Jayden Shults rounded out North Laurel’s top-10 finishers with an 80 after rounds of 38 and 42, placing 10th.
North Laurel coach Jimmy Storm said the Jaguars came up just short of their tournament goal but had plenty to be proud of.
“On Tuesday, we played nine holes at Battlefield Golf Course and then on Wednesday we finished the tournament with another nine holes at London Country Club,” Storm said. “While we fell just a little bit shy of our goal, we finished six strokes short of first place, but we did receive an award for SEKGC Conference Tournament Runners-Up. Our guys played well, and each of them placed in the top 10 of the tournament.”
The Jaguars also had plenty to celebrate when the conference’s season awards were announced.
North Laurel was crowned the SEKGC Conference Season Champion after completing conference play with a perfect 5-0 record.
Every member of the Jaguars’ lineup also earned All-Conference recognition.
Wes Storm and Max Dotson were named First Team All-Conference, while Jackson Storm and Wil Sutton earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Jayden Shults was selected to the Third Team All-Conference.
“Awards were also presented for the overall conference season,” Storm said. “North Laurel Boys were SEKGC Conference Season Champions with a perfect record of 5-0. All of our players also received All-Conference honors. Wes Storm and Max Dotson were named First Team All-Conference, Jackson Storm and Wil Sutton were named Second Team All-Conference, and Jayden Shults was named to the Third Team All-Conference.”
Storm said he is proud of what his team has accomplished as the Jaguars now turn their attention toward postseason play.
“I am proud of our guys and all they have accomplished this season,” Storm said. “We play in our regional tournament on Monday at Eagles Nest Country Club in Somerset.”
