STANFORD — Whitley County showed some early fight and pulled even in the opening stages, but Lincoln County eventually took control and handed the Colonels a 7-1 loss in boys soccer action.
The Colonels came out aggressively and created scoring opportunities before answering an early Lincoln County goal.
Tucker Hale provided the equalizer for Whitley County, finding the back of the net off a cross from Skyler Mahan to tie the match at 1-1.
Lincoln County responded and was able to take advantage of a young Whitley County defense to pull away.
“We came out aggressive early and had some opportunities,” Whitley County coach Michael Branham said. We tied the game early 1-1 when Tucker Hale found the net off a Skyler Mahan cross. Our defense is young and has been struggling lately against tough opponents.
“We will make adjustments and move forward,” he added. “We are in a tough non-conference road stretch right now and will have to get better defensively if we want to compete with top teams in the surrounding regions.”
