CORBIN — Eden Begley scored a goal in each half to lead North Laurel to a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Corbin during Thursday’s 49th District battle.
“We came into this one knowing we would have to grind it out for all 80 minutes,” North Laurel coach Jason Welch said. “We were able to get one in each half to come out with the win. We started out fast with a lot of opportunities near the goal, but Eden Begley was finally able to break the tie and put one in to take us into halftime up 1-0.
“In the second half, we lacked some energy and made a couple subs to boost our play. Eden got another goal in the second half on a through ball from Annabelle Welch,” he added. “We tried to send too many over the top instead of connected passes like I know we’re capable of. We’re back on the road Thursday with another district game at Whitley, and we’ll make a few adjustments and be ready to go.”
The Lady Jaguars entered the matchup expecting a battle and created several opportunities around the goal early in the contest.
Begley eventually broke through, finding the back of the net to send North Laurel into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Welch felt his team lacked some energy early in the second half, leading him to make substitutions in an effort to provide a spark.
The Lady Jaguars eventually added some insurance when Annabelle Welch connected with Begley on a through ball. Begley finished the opportunity for her second goal of the match and a 2-0 advantage.
North Laurel’s defense made the lead stand, keeping Corbin off the scoreboard to secure the shutout victory.
