WILLIAMSBURG — Cam Anderson recorded a first-half hat trick, while North Laurel erupted for five second-half goals to pull away for an 8-0 victory over Whitley County in boys soccer action.
Despite the final margin, North Laurel coach David Broyles felt Whitley County controlled portions of the midfield early and created several scoring opportunities before the Jaguars settled into the match.
Anderson broke through first after being fouled inside the box and converting the ensuing penalty kick. He added his second goal off a slotted ball from Malik Turner before completing his hat trick in spectacular fashion, finding the upper 90 from 35 yards out to give North Laurel a 3-0 halftime advantage.
The Jaguars took control after the break.
Zach Jacobs found Turner for North Laurel’s fourth goal before Reilly Stuber worked his way across the field and scored to make it 5-0. Tate Philpot followed by scoring off a Jacobs corner kick.
Stuber then found Tucker Ebersole inside the box for the Jaguars’ seventh goal. Jacobs completed the scoring with 13 minutes remaining after working across the center of the field and finding the back of the net.
“We came out flat tonight and let Whitley control the midfield too much,” Broyles said. “We gave up some early scoring opportunities, but were able to fend them off. We showed flashes of good soccer, and when we did, we converted. Cam Anderson opened the scoring when he converted a PK when he was fouled in the box. Cam scored a second goal off a slotted ball from Malik Turner. He got his hat trick right before the half when he hit the upper ninety from 35 yards out to make it 3-0 at the half.
“We came out much stronger in the second half, which gave us early scoring opportunities. This time we converted when Zach Jacobs found Malik Turner for the goal. We quickly got a fifth goal when Reilly Stuber worked his way across the field and found the back of the net. Our sixth goal came a couple of minutes later when Tate Philpot scored off a Zach Jacobs corner. Our seventh goal came when Reilly found Tucker Ebersole in the box. We finished the scoring with 13:00 left to go when Zach Jacobs worked across the center of the field and scored.
“I felt we played much better soccer in the second half, and it showed in our results. We can’t afford to come out that way tomorrow against a good Corbin team.”
