Thompson’s two second-half goals lift North Laurel past Danville

LONDON — Presley Thompson scored twice in the second half to help North Laurel break a halftime tie and capture a 3-2 victory over Danville in girls soccer action.

The Lady Jaguars (1-1-1) and Danville went into halftime tied at 1-1 after North Laurel was able to maintain possession and string together passes throughout the opening half.

North Laurel came out with added energy after the break, and a few adjustments helped the Lady Jaguars take control. Thompson struck twice to give North Laurel a 3-1 advantage.

Danville answered with a late goal to pull within one, but the Lady Jaguars held on for the 3-2 victory heading into district play next week.

“Danville is a good team, so this was a good win for us before going into district play next week,” North Laurel coach Jason Welch said. “We were able to maintain possession and connect a lot of passes in the first half to go into halftime tied 1-1. We came out of half with some energy and made a few adjustments that seemed to work.

“Presley Thompson was able to score two in the second half to put us up 3-1,” he added. “They were able to squeeze one more in late to make it 3-2. Our keeper played well, our midfield controlled the pace, and we were able to come out with a win tonight.”
